Let me get this out of the way first. Watching Carl Palmer play is the closest I will ever come to seeing the late great Buddy Rich. In the past year, he has suffered the loss of both Emerson and Lake, and is now left to carry on what’s left of ELP’s legacy.
Meeting him, however, was not what I expected. Backstage at the Yestival, Mr. Palmer was polite with a capital “P”. Could I get a picture with him? No. Could I shake his hand? No. Could I get his autograph? Well – okay. And what words of wisdom from him? “Thanks for coming.”
